Structural Designs

This project is about a company ‘Structural Designs’ who are an architecture firm opening in the West Midlands, Birmingham. The company itself, specialises in both residential and commercial architecture as well as restorations and even shows the client the design on VR so that the client can experience the design to see how it would look like when created.

I have been allocated the design work for their brand and they have given me the task of creating a brand identity for them, in which they requested that I create for them a logo, a business card, a letterhead and an envelope for the letterhead, and a brand style guideline.

The company wants me to create this brand identity for them that makes them comes across as sophisticated and modern like throughout all the pieces I produce. They also want me to hold this high standard throughout my work and to depict them with professionalism and sophistication as well as holding them with good quality.

My intention for my project was to successfully gain confidence towards street photography as a whole and find selective and unique elements to introduce to my work to take it that one step further and make it my own as well as being influenced by other photographers works. Exploring the way in which different cities and towns behave, comparing the buildings and the social aspects of the areas.

I experimented with various skills and qualities to present strong photographs that capture my intentions. A skill that will be important to investigate is composition, Tone, and space. This will allow me to navigate and explore different areas and create a more interesting and in-depth image, this could be a focus towards what I would like to capture. The concept I had in mind was to begin with simply taking photography shoots locally and almost experimenting with the initial idea of what I could see on a day-to-day basis. This allowed me to find what I was most interested in when it came to street photography as a broad perspective.

My intentions were to create prints similarly to Rauschenberg’s work and to be influenced in such a way to layer and build up images using my photographs of street photography to create unique and intriguing outcomes. Using similar techniques such as printing, brush stroke and layering through my works. This includes using cyanotypes and screen printing processes with my photographs.

The general concept of my project was ocean pollution. This involved how waste and items change naturally through time and in the hands of humans. I wanted to discuss the relationship and interaction between the natural world specifically ocean life and human activity and how humans can affect it.

The whole of my project comes full circle about how humans are the ones creating this mess in every aspect of the way, like fishing, waste and not recycling, littering, and releasing gases into the air and oils into the ocean. Which is harming the ocean and its marine life. But also because of that human are getting affected themselves because animals are dying creating loss of creatures for fishing, loss of jobs for people who work alongside the ocean or do with the creatures inside it not in relation to saving it.

And they’re ruining the actual water which humans love and want to explore in and for in so the whole idea of humans killing the ocean is also destroying themselves as well.

Throughout my project I explored formal elements and still life photography. I started exploring these with a digital camera photographing fruit and then began to explore these elements with a 5×4 camera photographing everyday objects such as twigs, dried out objects and roots.

Exploring the everyday objects that you would find outside took interest to me which was inspired by my two main photographers Karl Blossfield and Edward Weston. Both explored film photography and I was particularly inspired by Edward Weston being associated with the F64 Group.

The concept of this project was to explore and showcase the hidden beauty of creatures that are deemed hideous and creepy to society. I am hoping these images will help you understand the delicacy and intricacy of these complex insects. Every single insect on our planet has a function and these functions help us live our day to day lives, which we don’t appreciate enough. Hopefully, these up close shots of my interesting subjects will help you understand how astonishingly beautiful these insects are in their own ways.

In this project I focused on exploring the concept of lost, both in terms of lost items and feeling lost in life. To me lost is the emotion that comes from a lack of purpose or motivation in life, an all-encompassing depressing feeling that is felt widely among the working classes within cities due to the inevitable monotony of our lives.

My aim was to accurately convey this feeling of being lost through my photographs, using street photography to capture the hidden feelings of the public. Using film and other analogue techniques was important to this project because it helped me to photograph scenes that were real and in the moment, as well as create small imperfections in the images that suggests they have been lost or forgotten.

On top of this, the exploration into surrealism allowed me to convey a greater sense of being lost through the chaos of public spaces and, by extension, society.

I focused my project on dark naturalism. Through which I explored a range of sources of inspiration and found myself exploring the anatomy of both humans and animals. I used a range of techniques to explore my ideas and found that I drew inspiration from unexpected artists.

My project focuses on the human form and looking at the human body in varying detail. I was inspired by traditional studies of the human body within art and wanted to recreate this in my own way. For this, I used different media and techniques to demonstrate and highlight different aspects of the anatomy.
